That's all you gotta do

I grew up on the Monterrey Pop footage of this song so its cool to see a different performance from around that time. Redding's genius was his smooth vocal presence within the all-out reckless abandon of his stage performance. He consistently ratchets up the intensity here--dude, he's raw energy!--and the band (is that Booker T & the MG's?) behind him is totally game. This is good stuff right here.

Hey, man, I don't know why I'm posting this question on your Redding post (sh*t, I can't even watch the Redding clip right now b/c I'm at work), but didn't we go to a Fishbone concert many moons ago in NC? Was I with you? Whatever happened to those guys?

I caught Fishbone back in Charlotte, I think I was by myself as I recall. It was a bar on Independence that had just opened (an old place, it probably used to be a bar or something back in the day) and closed not long after because a guy got electrocuted near the front door. Too bad, the place was big and had a good stage. Yeah, man, I got kicked in the face by Angelo Moore, I was hoping it would scar up but it healed. Oh well. I'm not sure if Fishbone is still around these days.

I think I may have been with you at that show. I think we were both fairly intoxicated and, after the show, after they turned the lights on, I was amazed at the number of empty beer bottles on the floor. Seemed like the floor was nothing but a sea of empty bottles... But maybe I was imagining that. I probably wasn't even at the show.
