Danny Plotnick Finally Gone Digital

Danny Plotnick was a teacher and a co-worker of mine back in the day, a guy who put in the hard work over the years, a Super 8 legend. Stumbled across this trailer while looking for Negativland vids on You Tube. (I was hoping to find either 'Guns' or 'Our Favorite Things' but no such luck--come on You Tube, get to work!) Now his shorts are collected on DVD, congratulations! I've only seen a coupla these but I'm here to let y'all know 'Swingers Serenade' is a classic!

What's not to love?

The poetry of Yevtushenko, a profile on Dick Butkus, a lively debate on the state of modern jazz and hot, naked girls. And all for a dollar! October, 1971 seems like it must've been a better time in America.

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio

There's a theory that Caravaggio was on the run for murder when his paintings finally got popular and he was tagged by the Vatican to be their homegrown cultural response to the Protestant Reformation. Good thing God forgives, huh?

(There's a similar story about another one of the pictured people on my blog, can you guess which one?)
